Hello, I’m Monique, I’m 21 and art is my life. Painting nourishes me and is therapy to me, and I would recommend it to anyone, especially those with depression, anxiety and PTSD.
I grew up being very secretive and ashamed about having autism because I thought that being so different was somehow bad. Now I try my best to be as outspoken as I can about things like that, because being different is something to celebrate. Also, if being vocal about mental illness and disability could help take away the stigma for others, then I think it is very much worth it.
I have had schizoaffective disorder since 2018, and it has completely changed my life and the way I see the world. I am very lucky to say that I am able to manage the hallucinations as much as I can, and in some way I feel like this condition helps my art to create and have different styles, expression, creativity and its depth. I am thankful for the support I have around me with my parents, sister and partner. I feel connected to the world again and I am so grateful.
